8th Grade - Geography
(state requirement - high school credit)
This is a survey of the earth and its resources. We will explore the geographic and cultural features of people in various regions and countries around the world. Students will discuss climate, economics, population, culture, and history of various regions along with the physical features such as vegetation, land features, and human lifestyles.
Course of study includes: Latitude and longitude, Five themes of geography, Earth’s surface, Landforms, Regions of the United States, Australia, Mexico, Central America, and South America.
The United States
Week of March 14-18 To learn about the wonders of Australia, we are making postcards on various places around the country and presenting them in class. >Quiz - Wednesday, March 16 (map of Australia) Week of March 7-11 G'day mate... We will be starting a new unit on Australia. >Test - Tuesday, March 8 (50 states and capitals) Week of February 29-March 4 We finish our study of the regions of the United States. We also watched a video "How the States got their Shapes". We learned why California is bent, the borders, notches and panhandles of different states. It told us about the unique geography and history of America. >Test on Tuesday, March 8 -states and capitals |
