6th Grade - New World History & Geography
In this course, we explore American History. We discover how the new world was discovered and settled. We review the American documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, The Preamble to the Constitution, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, etc. The students’ maps and review sheets will give the students the opportunity to identify the geographical locations they study.
Course of study includes: Exploration, 13 colonies, Revolutionary War, Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, Louisiana Purchase, Westward Expansion, Civil War, Immigration, Inventions, World Wars, Korean War, Civil Rights, Vietnam War, and 20th Century.

The Age of Progress Week of March 21-25 We start a new unit on Immigration. We will learn the history behind the Statue of Liberty. We then move in to the era of industry and inventions. ---------------- "A house divided against itself cannot stand" Abraham Lincoln The Civil War Week of March 14-17 We review for our test on the Civil War and finish up with this unit. >Test - Tuesday, March 15 Week of March 7-11 We will finish our unit on the Civil War. We will look at some key battles and events. We will start the study guide for the test at the end of the week. >Quiz (22) on Wednesday, March 9 >Important Date Report - due Wed. March 9 Week of Feb. 29- March 4 We start the week out by discussing the first battle of the Civil War - Fort Sumter. We will continue by comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the North and South. >Quiz (21) - Friday, March 4 >Report due Tuesday, March 8 Week of February 22-26 The Civil War was introduced. We discussed events that led up to the Civil War. We discussed the Underground Railroad, Kansas-Nebraska Act, Dred Scott case just to name a few.
